Dedicated to Sustainable Practices

https://goldenaluminum.com/files/main/web_charts.jpgGolden Aluminum is dedicated to using sustainable practices in its operations. From our day-to-day business, to the community in which we work, our company is committed to integrating new ways to be more efficient in our practices; thereby reducing our impact on the environment.  Although we are a small aluminum company by comparison, we like to believe we can do big things to change the way our industry does business by reducing our own carbon footprint.

Our Sustainability program focuses on five key material aspects to assure we proactively meet or exceed all environmental regulations and are minimizing our footprint by:

1. Reduce landfill waste from operations

2.  Lowering our overall energy usage

3.  Reduce greenhouse emissions

4.  Lessen water usage in our Plant

5.  Reduce the amount of regulated hazardous air pollutants

Golden Aluminum has not received any non-compliance or incurred any liabilities specific to environmental, health and safety performance in the last three years.

We take a proactive approach to sustainable business practices, and have implemented several programs to improve our environmental footprint. Following are a few of the ways we incorporate sustainability into every component of our business.

Aluminum Advantage

Reduce Waste & Save Energy

Americans go through more than 1 million pounds of aluminum every day. The great thing about aluminum products is that they are made for 100% recycling. That means every piece of aluminum you recycle can be reused.

When you recycle, you are not only reducing waste, you are also saving the energy it takes to make a brand-new aluminum product. In as little as 60 days, your recycled can reappears on the shelf as a brand-new container.

As an active  member of the Aluminum Association, Golden aluminum has obtained information on the following life-cycle assessments specific to  hot and cold milled aluminum.

Aluminum Advantage

How We Do It

Reduce

Read about our ongoing commitment to use less energy, water and materials to produce our products in our sustainability section.

Innovate

Our proprietary Infinity Alloy Family is made of between 60 to 100 recycled beverage cans.

Optimize

The cores used by Golden Aluminum are made of 100% recycled material.

Recycle

In 2014 we recycled 10 million pounds of beverage containers, the equivalent of 320 million aluminum cans. 30 to 50% of our production uses recycled aluminum for its raw material.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity

Golden Aluminum has completed an internal Biodiversity Checklist for the Ft. Lupton facility. This checklist will be completed on a biannual basis to identify any known issues on the surrounding biodiversity.

The Biodiversity Checklist was used to identify possible biodiversity issues at the facility so appropriate actions can be developed to address any known risks within an appropriate time period. If a category of the biodiversity checklist is considered high risk, the facility
will develop and implement an action plan. There were no high risks identified in 2021.

Compliance and Liabilities

Compliance and Liabilities

Golden Aluminum has not received any non-compliance or incurred any liabilities specific to environmental, health and safety performance in the last three years.

Golden Aluminum did not have any reportable spills in 2021 nor do they have any active remediation projects on-site.

Golden Block Caster

Golden Block Caster

Golden Aluminum's Golden Block Caster is the most efficient method of producing Aluminum in the World. It uses 80% less energy than nearly all other mills worldwide dramatically reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Continuous Casting Technology

Continuous Casting Technology

This technology is energy efficient with greater flexibility than the standard aluminum industry sheet technology. Golden Aluminum is the only aluminum facility that uses continuous casting technology, the Golden Block Caster. This cuts our energy use in the production process, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Shipping

Shipping

12 of our 14 shippers participate in the EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership an innovative brand that represents environmentally cleaner, more fuel-efficient transportation options. The Smart Way brand identifies products and services that reduce transportation-related emissions. All of EPA SmartWay transportation programs result in significant, measurable air quality and/or greenhouse gas improvements while maintaining or improving current levels of other emissions and pollutants.

Recycled Pallets

Recycled Pallets

35% of all pallets that are used in our plant are recycled. Pallets unable to be reused are turned into mulch for landscaping.

Lights Out

Lights Out

Our lights are managed by motion detectors and only come on when employees are working in that room. When we leave a room, the lights go out saving 3,000 kilowatts in energy usage each year.

Aluminum Stewardship Initiative

Aluminum Stewardship Initiative

Golden Aluminum is a proud member of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative, or ASI, which  is a global non-profit organization that was established in 2009. ASI has developed standards and a certification process to bring together producers, users and stakeholders in  the aluminum value chain to help assure responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminum around the world. Golden Aluminum is striving to meet the ASI standards and are actively pursuing certification in the ASI Performance and Chain of Custody Standards.
